The Murcian Miguel Mellado has won first prize in the II Orihuela Palmeral Painting Contest, worth 1,500 euros, with a work in which the La Escorrata aqueduct was the main image. The second prize, of 750 euros, went to Rafael Terrés, a native of Baños de Fortuna, and the third prize, of 500 euros, was obtained by the young man from Almoradi, Pablo Follana.

Around half past six in the afternoon this Saturday, the jury’s decision was announced, made up of the director of the EASDO, Juanjo Pérez, the teachers of said school, Rosa García and Jorge Serrano, the advisor to the Orihuela City Council. , Dámaso Aparicio, and the Councilor for the Environment, Noelia Grao.

The director of EASDO stated that the level is increasing. “If in 2022, in the first edition, we saw very good works, in this one we have seen a superior quality that suggests that, in the coming years, it will go to a crescendo.” For her part, the Councilor for the Environment has revealed that, in the next editions, children will also be protagonists and that the exhibition held with the winners and finalists of the contest will also be present in the Lonja, which It is usually the main showcase of the large exhibitions that take place in the city of Orihuela.

The II Painting Competition has had the participation of about 35 artists, mainly from the provinces of Alicante, Murcia and Almería. Throughout the day, they have captured their art in different areas of the Palmeral. In the morning, the families who have come to this enclave have enjoyed observing the different techniques used and the little ones have done so with the various painting, graffiti, face painting and gymkhanas workshops that have been organized for the occasion.

For yet another day, the Palmeral of Orihuela has been filled with art and magic. An event that has signs of continuity thanks to the support of the City Council and the sponsorship of the company Actúa, Servicios y Medio Ambiente, which is in charge of maintaining this unique place in Europe.
