Environment Day is celebrated in style in Orihuela
On 3rd June, the Palmeral will host an intense day of activities including environmental workshops and children’s games, sports and performances by DJ’s and local groups.
Once again this year, Orihuela’s Palmeral will be the perfect setting for Orihuela to celebrate World Environment Day, which is commemorated on the 5th of June. Two days before, on Saturday 3rd, a series of activities will take place in this unique and singular spot, with the aim of both entertaining and raising awareness of the environment and the care and protection of biodiversity. At ten o’clock in the morning, the day will begin with a zumba class, run by Urban Fitness, and from eleven o’clock onwards, the fun will begin, especially for the younger ones. They will be able to enjoy the climbing wall and zip line, inflatables, craft workshops, recycling, palm tree planting and archery. At 11.30 am, the official inauguration of the day and the exhibition of the Palmeral de Orihuela Photography Competition will take place, as well as the prize-giving ceremony, which will be carried out by representatives of the municipality and the collaborating organisations, Caja Rural Central and the EASDO. During the morning, there will also be two guided tours under the title “Discover the secrets of the Orihuela Palm Grove”, for which you will have to register through the website www.palmeraldeorihuela.com, and you will also be able to enjoy exhibitions of white palm plaiting and palm tree climbing. In the afternoon, children can continue to have fun with the climbing wall, zip wire, inflatables, craft workshops and handmade air fresheners, as well as the educational routes through the Palm Grove organised by the Faunatura association. Music will also be the star of the day. From 5.30 p.m. onwards, the performances will begin, which will last for approximately eight hours. Attendees will be able to enjoy performances by Deuve Dj, Solar Dj’s, Mr Hyde and La Hornet. The Moors and Christians Festival Association “Santas Justa y Rufina” will collaborate with the initiative, being in charge of the bar, which will be open throughout the duration of the activities. The events to celebrate World Environment Day have been presented to the media by the councillor for the Environment, Guillermo Cánovas, who was accompanied by the president of the festive association, Manuel Ortuño, the Moorish ambassador, José Germán Torres, Charly, (Moors
