Alberto Calleja Buendía, with his work “Immensity”, has been the winner of the II Photography Contest “Palmeral de Orihuela”. The winner, who will receive a 400-euro prize and trophy, is only 21 years old, is a native of Madrid and a mountain guide student. The second prize, endowed with 200 euros, went to the work “Vergel”, by Gerardo Cayuela Grao and, in third position, Cristian Agulló Rodes was awarded with the photograph titled “Once in 1931”, which will get 100 euros.
Also, 3 prizes have been awarded to students from the Orihuela School of Higher Art and Design (EASD0) endowed with 100 euros and a trophy. The winners have been Yerai Baldó Masip, with the work “Cotton Stars”, Javier Murcia Pérez, with “Diosa Palmera”, and Miriam Pastor Belmonte, with the photograph “From Inside”.
In this second edition, a total of 70 lovers of this art have participated, presenting a total of 200 works to the contest.
The jury was chaired by the Councilor for the Environment, Guillermo Cánovas, who was accompanied by the prestigious photographer from Oriolan and Canon Ambassador to Europe, Pablo Laguía; the EASDO photography professor and vice-director of the center, Raquel Artacho and María Isabel García; the Deputy Director of the Caja Rural Central Zone and the person in charge of Social Work, Gemma Martínez and Lourdes Martínez and the Graduate in Environmental Sciences, Esther Moreno.
After the deliberation, Cánovas thanked the artists for his participation, highlighted the high quality of the photographs submitted to this edition and congratulated the winners.
The prizes will be awarded in June, at the Palmeral Interpretation Center, coinciding with the opening of the photography exhibition, which includes the thirty finalists of the contest. The event has been organized by the Department of the Environment of the Orihuela City Council, counting, for yet another year, with the sponsorship of Caja Rural Central and the collaboration of the EASDO, entities that Cánovas wanted to thank for their involvement in this activity that consolidates in the world of photography.
